5/10/13: Sightseers, Stories We Tell May 9, 2013

Your Must See Movies of the Week

Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell

Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers

Even though Wang Bing’s Three Sisters barely got any reviews for its U.S. commercial release, let’s call it a must see too.

More Well-Reviewed New Movies

Lenny Abrahamson’s Irish teen drama What Richard Did

Other New Releases

Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby is getting mostly bad reviews, but I couldn’t ignore it since so many talented critics were reviewing it.

There’s an early consensus for a movie that’s coming to the US next week: J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness.

Jean-Luc Godard’s Band of Outsiders

Directors

And the Jean-Luc Godard archive has a ton of links.

The Cannes Film Festival begins next Wednesday with CRU coverage probably beginning Thursday, so look for that.

This film is actually being prmeotod on UK TV just now as it’s going to have a simultaneous Cinema, Blu-ray/Dvd, VOD and Television broadcast on Film4 (a UK channel devoted to showing only films and documentary material) in early July so I may watch the TV airing if I can. That said, I have seen Kill List and have possibly the lowest opinion on it one can have. However the UK critic Mark Kermode I believe absolutely loved it. Can’t fathom why at all but I haven’t seen Sightseers. I wasn’t inclined to after Kill List but depending on how I find the above film I might reconsider that down the line.
