Consensus Comparison: Alex Ross Perry’s Queen of Earth August 29, 2015

Venice and Telluride begin next week and TIFF starts the week after that. I’m steeling myself for a hectic series of days. I’ve created festival pages for the 2015 editions of TIFF and NYFF, since many of their films have already screened earlier in the year.

The reviews for Z for Zachariah coming out of Sundance were uniformly bad (50 by the end of January), but they’ve improved a lot now that it’s getting a commercial release.

Your Film of the Week is Alex Ross Perry’s Queen of Earth, which you can watch on VOD right now, in case you don’t live in a city where it’s screening. I’m shocked at the small number of reviews Rotten Tomatoes has gathered for it. No wonder Criticwire called it their “Sleeper of the Week.”
