Consensus Comparison: Birdman, Listen Up Philip October 18, 2014

An unexpected comedy from the tragedy specialist Iñárritu, a major breakthrough for Perry, a noteworthy directorial debut from Simien and an exuberantly-received final film from Takahata. It’s a good week to go to the movies. And even if you don’t live in a cinephile city, it’s the kind of week that shows you there’s still a lot of vitality left in contemporary cinema.
