Consensus Comparison: Del Toro, Spielberg, Hou, Fukunaga October 17, 2015

Thought for the day: Does it seem hypocritical that, on the one hand, filmmakers will change characters’ names when they make a movie that’s more or less autobiographical but, on the other hand, they usually maintain the names of the real-life people for biopics and movies based on actual events? When they fudge the facts in biopics, they bring up that meaningless, one-size-fits-all bromide about how the “emotional truth” is more important than the factual truth. And yet when it comes to their own lives, it’s crucial for fiction to be kept separate fact.

Three Films of the Week this time: Bridge of Spies, The Assassin and Field Niggas. There’s no shortage of promising-sounding movies this week, even beyond those three.
