Beneath the absurdist patter and passion for vintage cartoons lies a powder keg of self-loathing, ignited by encounters with a tambourine player, a widowed receptionist, and others. Running just under an hour, Another Girl is surprisingly clear-sighted about things that can barely be seen.

  • Like Twister, this is charming, quirky, poetic, and original—maybe even more so—and Almereyda's use of the toy camera creates a fuzzy, intimate kind of space that actually seems to resemble the inside of someone's head.
