Days of Wine and Roses Poster
  • Days of Wine and Roses is probably remembered as something of a disease-of-the-week picture, a reputation likely enhanced by its television origins. The focus on alcohol addiction might infer that Days is narrowly focused, but it’s difficult to name another American film of the period that takes as its _subject_ excess. The film, elegantly directed by Edwards, is remarkable for the passion with which it lays bare those who binge on rather than simply reap the benefits of the postwar economic boom.
