  • For all its intermittent perverse pleasures... Interview with the Vampire is mostly a stately snooze, its desperation to start a franchise with literary pedigree all but wafting off the screen. Had it more embraced the Hammer horror traditions that are its indirect influences (it’s easy to imagine Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in these roles in an earlier era), the film might have been the rolling barrel of bad taste it deserved to be.
