  • Derived from a Philip K. Dick story that’s more about action than nuanced commentary, it doesn’t have a vision that incorporates a poetics but functions as a grand entertainment; part of its central plan is to always give you more to look at than you can possibly take in.

  • A fleet, discursive meditation on free will, Minority Report provocatively doubles as a film about the act of filmmaking: what is Cruise’s cop if not a film editor, scouring through someone else’s disconnected recorded images in order to reconstruct them into a coherent narrative? And if Minority Report functions as a dramatization of its maker’s own methods at the time, then of course it had to be shot and edited on film.
