The second bid by Amicus (after Dr Terror's House of Horrors) to usurp Hammer's territory, The Skull is distinctly underplotted... But it hardly matters, since director Freddie Francis ingeniously fleshes out producer/screenwriter Milton Subotsky's thin script (adapted from a short story by Robert Bloch) with a prowling camera that explores every detail of Scott Simon's intricately objet-strewn sets.
