12 reviews for Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line: 100/100. Reviews from Jonathan Rosenbaum, J. Hoberman, Sight & Sound, Dennis Lim, Criterion, Senses of Cinema and many others.
An update that should have been a part of the Cannes pre-game, Isao Takahata’s Grave of the Fireflies: 92/100. I went back some years to find pieces from Senses of Cinema by Bill Mousoulis and Freda Freiberg, as well as Mike D’Angelo’s review.
(On a related note, Takahata’s Directors’ Fortnight film The Tale of Princess of Kaguya is one review shy of a consensus, but Variety’s Maggie Lee and MUBI’s Daniel Kasman are over the moon for it.)
